Pyjama Drama is a fun, creative programme for children from 6 months to 7 years old, and is held here weekly! Each class uses a combination of drama, movement, music and play to help develop creativity and imaginations to soar!

Pyjama Drama is a fun, creative programme for babies, toddlers and young children. Classes are packed with games and activities that develop key skills such as confidence, co-operation and concentration whilst igniting the imagination. The programme supports the current requirements of the National Curriculum.

We teach our programme at The Venue in three age differentiated classes:

Dewdrops - for children from 6-20 months

Why not come and enjoy music making, and dramatic story telling with your baby. Each thirty minute class babies and young toddlers are encouraged to take an active role within a simple story, as told by the leader. For example in the story, 'Cheeky monkey' , the children may swing through the trees in role as monkeys, learn a funky monkey dance, sing a new song about a wriggly monkey and play a game which involves lots and lots of tickling! Parents and carers are actively encouraged to take part, music is integrated fully in to each session and a different story is explored each week.

Raindrops - for children from 20 months - 2 1/2 yrs

Each Raindrops session is forty minutes long and combines the creative elements of drama, including movement , music and play. As children at this age are just beginning to find their imaginations, the leader gently encourages them to engage in pretend play and simple role play. So, in a session exploring bugs and slugs the children may find themselves in a role as a very shy snail playing hide and seek with a spider, going to a bug-tastic disco and boogying the night away with the ladybirds or burrowing underground with the sleepy worms. Original music and song further encourage children to take an active part within each session and parents stay with their child and support them as appropriate.

Rainbows - for children from 2 1/2 - 5 years

Rainbow classes are forty minutes long and combine drama, movement, music and creative play. Children of this age have fantastic imaginations and are able to throw themselves whole heartedly in to imaginary worlds! Each week the leader takes the children on a dramatic journey using improvisation and role play. As the children are encouraged to lead the direction of the drama themselves, anything can happen; a trip to the moon may result in the children taking a moon bug to the dentist or in making a mud-moon pie for a midnight feast - the only limit is your child’s imagination! Although a parent or carer stays during each session, as children become increasingly more confident and independent, many find they are able to take a step away from the action and observe their child as they work.

Wednesday mornings
9.45 – 10.25 : Raindrops and Rainbows combined

Friday mornings: 
9.50 – 10.20 : New Dewdrops (6 – 20 months)
10.30 – 11.10 : Raindrops (20 months – 2½ yrs)
11.20 – 12.00 : Rainbows (2 ½ yrs – 5 yrs)
